I remember one story. There was an elderly lady. Sorry, ladies, okay? Excuse me, any ladies are listening and angry… because you know, the ladies are the most important creatures in this world. Mother, divine! Work, everything is done by them.

There was elderly lady again, she was about 95 years old, and was looking, searching something in her garden, in the front of the house. She was bending forward and looking here and there and touching hands if she find somewhere. Two, three hours she was searching and searching. And the neighbour, there was one gentleman, very kind. And he said, “Grandmother, what are you searching for? Can I help you?”

She said, “Yes my child, I lost my needle.”

So he said, “Okay Granny, you sit down, I will search for you.” And he begin to search, he was looking here, everywhere, half an hour. And then he had such a strong back pain, he couldn’t even stand up! He said, “My God, again.” Then he thought, “I must ask her in which corner, where did she lose her needle.”

And he asked, “Grandmom, mother!”
“Yes?”
“Where did you lose your needle? Where did it fall down? Can you tell me?”
She said, “Yes. I lost my needle in my sleeping room.”
“You lost the needle in the sleeping room and you are searching outside?”
She said, “Yes.”
“Why you are searching outside?”
She said, “Because inside is too dark.”

Even it is too dark there in his inner light, but the things that you have lost inside, you can’t find outside. Search then, and so that our selves… sometimes it is funny that self is searching self. How funny? I am sitting here and now I tell you that “Oh God, it is very late. Do you know where is the Swamiji?”

And the Father David will say, “Yes yes, we know, please have a glass of water. It’s okay and you are very tired” and so on, no? And suddenly some psychologist is sitting here and saying, “Yes Swamiji, thank you for your coming and relax and we wish you goodnight.” It is very unpleasant for me then to find that I made a mistake and I asked them, “where am I?”

Same situation is this when we are asking, “where am I?” Self is searching Self. The Self is searching Self-realization. But it is very unpleasant for us because we lost that Reality. But we lost within, we didn’t lose outside. So, what is lost within, inside, we cannot find outside. And inside is the darkness of the ignorance. And so we have to get the light of knowledge.
