Tips for Yoga Practise

Try not to eat a large meal 2-3 hours before Yoga practise, a light snack like a small fruit or some nuts is advisable.
- Wear comfortable loose and stretchy clothing. Always have a warm top on hand for relaxation exercises.
- Bring a bottle of fresh water to the class, especially in hot summer days.
- When you enter the Yoga hall, try to leave your day-to-day concerns and worries behind, even just for the duration of the class. True relaxation and stress-release is not possible if you’re still holding on to the source of your stress.
- Always try to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the class. This will give you the space to connect with yourself and still your mind. In this state your practise will be most beneficial.
- Always remember that Yoga is an individual practise. This means that the practitioner is encouraged to become very familiar with their body, listening to the body and not exceeding the body’s current limitations.
- Remember that better results are achieved with regular and consistent practise. What you put in is what you’ll get out.
- Yoga is not a competition. The practise of Yoga is a very personal and individual experience where one’s only focus is towards oneself.
- Yoga postures are practised along with the natural flow of the breath. Become accustomed to your breathing so that you can comfortably coordinate your movements with the breath.
- Yoga assists the body’s natural detoxification process. After a yoga class you may experience a light headache - this is the body busy detoxifying. Drinking lots of water after a yoga class will help.
- Although not always possible in today’s rushed existence, after the yoga class try to keep your activities as calm and peaceful as possible, in this way you will extend your relaxed state into your night’s rest and wake up refreshed.
